Nyenrode Business Universiteit Amsterdam

Housemaster

The challenge

The tasks are performed within a private educational institution. The housemaster will play a central role within the organisation. He or she is responsible for complying with the code of conduct in relation to the learning and working environment. Interacting with the students is the main task; however, the tasks also include performing minor maintenance and repair work on the building and the responsibility for setting-up rooms and the opening and closing of the building. A core value of the organisation is personal attention. The tasks relating to this core value include monitoring students and holding them accountable to the code of conduct and the house rules. The Housemaster understands the organisation and the working method of the school; is skilled in solving problems concerning complaints, disruptions, maintenance and set-up of rooms and has practically oriented knowledge to deal with devices and their possible applications.

Tasks include:

  1. Daily oversight of the behaviour of staff and students and the use of the building;
  • co-responsible for being approachable and providing services for the students;

          serving as a point of contact for students;

  • calling students to order or alerting the teacher or management team about behavioral issues in accordance with the internal code of conduct;
  • ensuring that the public areas and offices are clean and tidy and remain so (clean desk policy);
  • performing simple security activities for the building by maintaining a visible presence for passers-by and by checking the building premises to protect against vandalism and theft;
  • Setting-up lecture rooms including AV/IT devices and making sure the room is ready to use.

  1. The maintenance and repair tasks for the building, grounds and inventory - taking into account any (technical) maintenance requirements and agreements, include:
  • indicating disturbances and take action on them;
  • fixing simple defects;
  • listening to and recording any complaints of a technical nature;
  • requesting quotations from suppliers in consultation with the portfolio holder.

Nyenrode Business Universiteit Amsterdam

Nyenrode Business Universiteit has two locations, Breukelen and Amsterdam. The Amsterdam campus reinforces the international esteem of the university and has close relationships with local and international enterprises based in Amsterdam.

Nyenrode Business Universiteit Amsterdam is situated in a beautiful canal house on the Keizersgracht, where students get state of the art education, personal attention and connect with (inter)national student groups. We are part of a thriving business ecosystem, we have a world-class network of alumni and host our own incubator with start-ups where students can start their entrepreneurial life.

As we are a small organization (about 20 colleagues), members of the different teams work together on a daily basis. We also work closely together with our colleagues in Breukelen.
